The Story Behind BUDGETNEEDS

It all started in December 2023, at my kitchen table.

At the time, I was in a phase where my money management felt like constantly fighting against the current. Impulse purchases, the feeling of never having an overview, and the quiet shame that creeps in when you don't want to look at your bank statements in the evening. I didn't want a complicated app or a spreadsheet with a hundred columns. I wanted something I could touch, something that reminded me every day of what was important to me.

So, I started making envelopes by hand. One for groceries, one for savings pots, one for the small pleasures you're still allowed to indulge in. The envelope budgeting method has been around for a long time. What was new for me was how much peace it brought into my life once I truly lived it, and not just knew about it theoretically.

What began as a personal project quickly became more. In January 2024, I officially registered BUDGETNEEDS, in February the first Etsy shop went online, and in May I moved to my own shop. Since then, a few handmade envelopes have grown into a whole world of ring binders, planners, wallets, all with the same aspiration: beautiful enough to enjoy using, and thoughtful enough to really help.

Who I Do This For

I am a founder, a mother, and since day one, a one-person team. Every product, every story, every response to a message comes from me. This is sometimes exhausting, but it also means that BUDGETNEEDS will never become a faceless brand.

It's important to me that you know: You don't need a single product from me to start using the envelope method for budgeting, for your finances, or for organizing. A paper envelope and a pen are perfectly sufficient. What I offer are things that make this journey more beautiful, more durable, and more pleasant for anyone who wants to treat themselves to that. But the first step towards more financial peace costs nothing.
